Local Agenda 21

Implementation period: November 2003 - March 2005

Goal: (1) Elaborate the Development Strategy, the Strategic Action Plan and Strengthening Institutional Capacity in implementing “Local Agenda 21”; (2) To create favorable conditions for economic and social development in rural areas.

Objectives: Setting up an operational mechanism for the co-operation with the Project Office, Territorial Coordination Entities and local project beneficiaries; Strengthening and developing project beneficiaries’ capacity for sustainable development; Developing and implementing Local Agenda 21; Train human resources in order to create entrepreneurial skills and competences; Encourage private initiative in order to increase the standard of living of community members via new jobs creation, collaboration with local authorities and civil society; To offer training and consulting services for the launch of businesses that would represent the base for economic and social infrastructure revitalization and development; To attract financial means and facilitate the possibilities for rural business development.

Results

• Selected the localities for the implementation of the project;
• Organized a cycle of seminars for LPAs and potential rural entrepreneurs;
• Elaborated the Development Strategies and Strategic Action Plans for selected communities;
• Identified business opportunities in each locality;
• Assisted potential entrepreneurs in the initiation of minimum 3 businesses in a community;
• Attracted financial resources in order to launch businesses;
• Organized 10 conferences for the dissemination of positive practices and project results.
