The finalists of the Hackathon held in the town of Soroca

The business incubator in the town of Soroca hosted one of the first three Hackathons of the project Promoting entrepreneurship in developing rural areas.

The event was attended by 75 young people from rural areas who want to start or develop their own businesses. 50 of them accepted the challenge and entered the competition. The competitors were divided into 14 teams and took part in a real two-day training marathon, conducted by experts of BCI, ODIMM and CIVITTA Estonia.

During the first day, the participants listened to presentations and learned to apply the Business Model Canvas and business presentation tools, defined customer segments and established the minimum viable product.

On the second day they completed the business model, the cost and revenue structure, and identified advertising channels.

After deliberations the jury announced the 5 teams selected in this competition stage: Pentru tine (creperie), Milk Nord (mini dairy plant), Jump Up (fitness), Sor Tur (tourism agency) and BIS (interactive services).

The jury also decided to include the Lefrucom Company in the project mentorship program for its future development.

The business incubator in Soroca and local and international mentors will support the development of these businesses during a six-month period.

The next Hackathon will take place on 28-29 November in Nisporeni.

The Hackathon is a marathon aiming to discover, support and promote young people who are able to manage a successful business in their locality, in fields that they choose on their own.

The project Promoting entrepreneurship in developing rural areas is financed by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is implemented by Business Consulting Institute, ODIMM and CIVITTA Estonia during August 2015 - June 2016.
