Promoting PPI as an efficient mechanism for community empowerment and sustainable local development

Goal: To strengthen capacities of non-state actors and local authorities for sustainable development.

 

Objectives:

  • To develop the capacity of local authorities to plan, implement and monitor development projects on a rights-based and gender responsive approach;     
  • To promote efficient mechanisms of cooperation among non-state actors and local authorities;
  • To empower communities and community-based organizations (CSOs), including vulnerable groups, to participate to local development and have better access to improved services and community infrastructure.

 

Results:

  • Better capacity of non-state actors and local authorities to play a role in the political dialogue, the reform agenda and socio-economic development at a local and national level;
  • Local CSOs enabled to have a voice in social, economic and political issues;
  • Establishment of 2 Local Participatory Boards, responsible for socio-economic development and social inclusion within the decision-making process;
  • 1 study visit and 20 representatives of the Local Participatory Board trained in socio-economic development and the mechanism of participation to local decision-making;
  • Training for 310 representatives of civil society, public and private sectors and vulnerable groups on how to enhance capacities of participation to local socio-economic development,
  • The instruments of Participatory Planning (budgeting) and Implementing (PPI) and Community Driven Development (CDD), used and implemented;
  • 2 Strategic Plans of Socio-Economic Development elaborated/updated;
  • 18 Focus groups/public meetings held on the approval of the Strategic Plans of Socio-Economic Development and the financing of the established projects;
  • 4 infrastructure development projects;
  • 4 sustainability plans of implemented projects;
  • Manual of Procedures for CDD and PPI.
